The 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT is a relatively easy truck to maintain, and a good choice for someone experienced in vehicle maintenance. Checking the transmission fluid level is easy to do, as the fluid dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay. Not every model includes this dipstick. The fog light is easy to change, as you only have to reach beneath the vehicle for reliable access to the bulb. This access is more difficult on other models. Changing the engine air filter is easy to do, as you only have to disengage a few fasteners for access to the filter. These fasteners are no problem to disengage.

Some things are more problematic on the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT. You will have to completely remove the headlight housing in order to access the headlight. This will require many tools to complete. Accessing the spare tire can be a problem, as you will have to lower it from under the vehicle in order to access the tire. The lowering mechanism can grow rusted to the vehicle over time and be difficult to turn. To access the tail light, you will have to remove the entire housing first. This will require the removal of a few torx bolts, which will require tools you may not have readily available for a repair.
