Common problems and easy repairs on a 2009 F-150

The 2009 Ford F-150 XLT is a moderately difficult vehicle to maintain and is only recommended to those capable of vehicle maintenance. You will have to completely remove the headlight housing to reach the headlight bulb. This will require many tools you may not have readily available for a repair. To access the spare tire you will have to lower it from under the vehicle first. The lowering mechanism can grow rusted to the vehicle and be difficult to turn. Changing the engine air filter will require you to use a few tools. Other models will not require the use of tools.

Some things are easier on the 2009 Ford F-150 XLT. Changing the fog light with reliability is no problem, as you only have to reach behind the housing for access to the assembly. Checking the oil level is easy to do, as the dipstick is easily accessible in the engine bay. The power steering reservoir sits in the front of the engine bay. You won’t have to reach far to add fluid, and the level markers are easy to read.
