Common problems and easy repairs on a 1987 El Camino

The 1987 Chevrolet El Camino is a difficult car to maintain. You’ll need to remove many torx bolts or the battery itself for access to any of the headlights, which won’t make for reliable bulb changes. The tail lights have a similar set-up that will require torx bolt and housing removals as well. Changing the wiper blades is problematic as you’ll have to engage them into their service position first.

However, the 1987 Chevrolet El Camino does have its upsides. Both the oil drain plug and the oil filter are quickly accessible from underneath the vehicle, allowing for reliable oil changes. Monitoring the brake fluid won’t be a problem given the open access to the reservoir. The engine air filter is also easy to reach and will allow for quick changes.
