Video Description

The video above shows how to change the fog light bulb in your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. Not all models have fog lights - for many Pontiacs, it depends on your trim level (Base) or whether the fog light option was ordered when your Sunfire was manufactured. Fog lights are typically in the front bumper, below the headlight cluster and are helpful in poor visibility. If one fog light is burnt out on your Sunfire, we recommend changing both bulbs because the working bulb will be dimmer than the one you replaced and will likely burn out soon anyway.

When you change the foglight on your Sunfire, be careful not touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers which causes the bulb to burn out earlier.

Step by Step Instructions for your Pontiac Sunfire

  1. Use paper towel or gloves whenever you deal with bulbs as the oil from your fingers can ultimately ruin the bulb.
  2. If you end up having to change one bulb, it is best to change all like bulbs.
  3. The first step will be to open the hood of the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire by pulling the hood release lever, raising the hood, and then propping the hood up using the hood prop.
  4. Locate where the foglamp that needs to be replaced is on your vehicle.
  5. Detach the plastic rivets found along the cover in the from of the car and then pull the cover off by lifting up.
  6. Loosen both the bolts that are keeping the housing down and then remove the housing from the vehicle.
  7. Remove the rivets on the foglamp housing and then take out the housing.
  8. Take the bulb assembly out of the housing by twisting counterclockwise, and then pull the bulb out of the socket.
  9. Insert the new bulb back into the socket until you hear a click, then place the bulb assembly into the lens of the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire and twist clockwise to lock.
  10. LIne up the tabs and tighten the bolts to reattach the bottom housing.
  11. Wiggle the top housing into place in the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire and then retighten the bolts until the housing is secure.
  12. Lastly, place the cover in its proper position and reattach the rivets to make it secure.
